Like most people who do or who have owned goldfish in their lives, I entered into this ‘hobby’ naively. To call it a ‘hobby’ isn’t strictly true. In the past ten months it has taken over my life. My fish are less pets and more family members for whom I would do anything to ensure their well-being.

Keeping goldfish is certainly rewarding. They are always so happy to see me – whether that is because they love me or because they recognise me as their food source – and I absolutely love spending time with them.

Some people may think that fish – especially goldfish – are boring as all they do is swim around in circles. These people either haven’t owned a goldfish or haven’t been looking after them properly.

I still make mistakes. The difference now is that I am working my hardest for the well-being of my fishy family and giving them my all.

I document here my mistakes, the rectifications and the lessons of fish keeping. There are many of each.

I had goldfish. Some can be incredibly territorial. They will bully and even kill others in their domain.
I’ve seen a goldie play “keepy up” with a snail!

got African clawed frogs these days… they’re amazing.
